:hmm: Have a chance to pickup a TC 56cal. Who has or had one and what are your thoughts on that Cal. for shot? I plan on grouse hunting and maybe deer. I have a 54 cal. rifled barrel for deer.
I have been thinking of just getting a smooth bore barrel from GM to fit my Investment Arms. And if so what Cal.? I know it would be cheaper. Some reading here on this forum has me wondering about the 56 cal.. Thank you :)

Based upon my personal experience with both, without question I'd recommend a .54cal GM smoothbore instead of a TC .56.

I haven't had any experience with any other .54 cal. smoothbore, but I would recommend the .56 cal (.550 bore) without hesitation to anyone. Great gun, easy to load and shoot with either ball or shot. Can usually be bought cheap also.
Thumbs up!

I have one, I removed the rear sight to make it a bit more shotgun like. I've put a low front bead on the front, and have been developin' a load based on 2 drams of powder, 9/16" cards cut from an orange juice carton, and paper shot cups with 3/4 or 7/8 oz of shot. I like it, but wasn't impressed with the round ball patterns. :rotf:

I had one of these many years ago. It just wasn't that accurate using ball and as a shotgun it had some limitations for uplands game--mainly I couldn't get very enthusiastic about an eight pound 28 bore. Swapped it for a C series '51 Navy and never looked back. But some folks do like them and wouldn't swap theirs for anything. A classic case of "to each his own"...

I got mine directly from Green Mountain, but if you order it through a supplier like Cain's Outdoor in West VA, it'll be a little less expensive than the MSRP GM charges.

Mine is a .54cal Flint smoothbore drop-in barrel for the regular size TC Hawken stock...15/16" x 33"...outstanding barrel both with PRB and shot loads
