TC 58 Flint

Had knee replacement 7-8 weeks ago so I'm bored.Saw a 80 gun sale coming up and saw a listing for a TC 58 cal flint.First thought was misprint and it's a perc 58 Big Boar.Get there and it is a TC Renegade 58 cal flinter.Droped the bore light down and it was slightly dirty but no ringed barrel.She has fiber sights on that I'm putting reg TC Renenade sights back on and has Allen head touch hole that will go back to slotted TC touch hole.Tomorrow she gets cleaned up..Didn't think these were real common and the 1st one I ever saw.Price $420.

I did not think that T/C made a flint .58 Renegade. I have never seen one. I had a roached out 50 cal flint barrel re-bored by Bobby Hoyt to .58, and it is a real shooter. Does the barrel have T/C stampings saying it is a .58?

The Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Values, book only lists a .45, 50 and .56 smoothbore for the TC Renegade.

Sold my .58 cal big bore a few months ago, it was caplock. This is the first flintlock big bore I have seen, so I'm curious if it is single trigger or double trigger? Do you know the rate of twist?

At $420, I would say you done well. The caplock big bores tend to bring a premium of $600 to $800 depending on condition. I typically watch the local auctions and have purchased a few hard to find T/C's over the years.

If I remember correctly, the percussion Big Bore I had stated Big Bore on the barrel, not Renegade like the sample in the photograph. Most likely came out of TC’s Fox Ridge custom shop. There was a time they were a true custom shop and would make most anything within reason that you wanted. Good catch.

Your right, mine said big bore on the barrel. Couldn't see the picture well enough to see the "Renegade" on the barrel, not until I went into the house for the evening and was out of tbe sun light.

Took it apart today and usually a flinter will have old powder behind the lock.Nothing and looks like new.Replaces the hex touch hole with a slotted TC touch hole.Might shoot with the fiber sights although not a big fan of them.I do have original Renegade front and rear to replace.Double triggers also.

What is interesting is that the cock of the flinter is the newer style. Those cocks came out late in production, so I wonder if the gun is from the Fox Ridge custom shop as someone else mentioned.
