Yeah it's nuts. I've bought 4 rifles and a pistol in the last year. 2 never fired. 2 Lyman in 54 a Renegade in 54 a NA Buffalo Hunter in 58 and a Plains pistol in 54 for 150. No rifles over 300. Did pick up a 50 percussion green mountain barrel off a prize blanket at a vous.

You can get a custom made Oregon Barrel drop in from the Gun Works for $100 less than the one above in any caliber and length. It does come less the sights and ramrod.

Pretty sure Rice Barrels will make you a TC drop in but I haven't heard anyone quote a price.

I’m not shocked, or even mildly surprised at the winning bid on that barrel. I bought two of them over the years and still shoot them. GREAT PRODUCT..! The last one I purchased... back when they were still very plentiful cost me something like $275.00-$300.00. I would remind folks that while other options are available...THIS ONE is available right NOW. That adds value in normal times... these days that can be HUGE especially as we are in hunting season. Jason ( Rice Barrels) has been offering a T/C “ drop-in” barrel for some time. They are in the white. It’s been some time since I spoke with him about this and recommend anyone interested contact him directly regarding current prices and lead time.

Found a new .58 cal GM barrel at Dixie Gunworks on the scratch and dent gun rack two or three years ago. It was missing the rear sight and ramrod. They were asking $200, I offered $150, we settled on $175.

Two years ago, shortly after the. 58 cal find at Dixie, a local muzzleloader show typically draws folks from surrounding states. A vendor from the Indianapolis area had three GM barrels for sale. I purchased all three barrels, sold two of them to pay for the .54 barrel I wanted to keep.

Just a few months ago, a local auction company had an online sale due to Covid-19. I drove up and inspected three barrels. Two were T/C and one was .36 cal GM barrel, all in good used condition. I ended up with all three barrels for under $300 out the door.

The GM barrels are out there, however it seems if you are impatient or buying from online auction services your going to pay a premium. I agree with Eric, if you cannot find what your looking for have it custom made, it maybe more cost effective.

I acquired a 40 cal green mtn barrel for my tc Seneca a while back. It was in the white but had sights. He wanted $150. I felt bad and gave him $175.

This will be a fun thread to laugh about later as inflation continues to skyrocket. I just read Delaware, I think, has a shortage of snowplow drivers and are now paying $310 per hour to get positions filled. Imagine. $310 per hour. It’s a bit more than more money than sense I fear.

And the second trick is to rely on bid fever. No one wants to "get beat" in auctions, fights, or races. I've had to tamp myself down before and remind myself their is nothing for sale that I actually need. Especially not regarding what is definitely a hobby, not a matter of life and death.

I bought a GM TC drop-in from the Gun Works this year for about $300 out the door, they had a bunch of them at the time, I spread the word, several people thanked me and said they bought one as well, they are out of stock now.

Initially it sounded like they would be getting more in but I don't know if this will come to pass.

Deer Creek could possibly have some GM drop in barrels or GM barrel blanks in stock…

It is my understanding that they now own Mr. Tip Curtis’s stock…
Mr. Tip had several GM barrels a couple years back.

Like Smo said, try Deer Creek. Tip had the last ones I knew of and they got his entire inventory after he passed.

I bought a GM barrel for a TC about a year ago for about 275.00. I have been shooting matches for many years, and that barrel shoots as good or better than any barrel I've owned. I bought a .45 barrel and load it with .445 balls and .010 patches over 40 gr. of 3f. I only use it for target shooting, so no need for more powder.

No doubt, but generally true when the guy says " I got ...... For 1/2 what you paid.". I have a couple friends that acquire guns and gun related or hunting related stuff at unbelievable prices on a regular basis. I don't know how they find the stuff. It's disturbing to watch them work. More like watching them work someone over. It's the art of the deal and they're always on the hunt for stuff.
