Does anyone own and shoot a TC with a 30" 15/16 barrel with 1/66 twist in .54 caliber? They came on the Hawken model. How do they do in the accuracy department and what loads and patch combinations do you use? Does it have the QLA barrel? What is the groove depth?

I saw some on the Fox Ridge original barrel list and was thinking I might just have to try and get one for a PA Hunter stock that I have. Seem like just the ticket. I want a .54 and I think it would fit on the PA Hunter stock but have not called to check it out yet. So; please chime in if you have one with this barrel on it.

TC's .54cal x 1:66" RB barrels for Hawkens & Renegades are 1", not 15/16"...have a couple myself;

TC's round ball barrels don't have QLAs;

I don't believe a 1" Hawken & Renegade barrel will fit in a PA Hunter;

Grooves are .010" deep and they are very accurate;

NOTE:
GM makes (or used to make) a .54cal 15/16" x 1:70" drop in for the regular size Hawken stocks.

I have TC 1-66, 50 cal barrels for the Hawken & Renegade and mine both have the QLA. I have no problems with the QLA and it is very easy to seat the patched ball then cut at the muzzle. I have only fired the Hawken barrel and it very accurate.

I guess your right Roundball; they are 1" not 15/16" and will not fit that my stock. I have been looking for a Green Mountain 15/16" .54 barrel and they seem to be all gone. I should have got one while I could. Have you shot their barrel in .54 caliber? Word is that they are good rb barrels. Thanks for the reply.

GM makes a 15/16 54 cal drop in barrel for the TC. It's 32 inches long and has the slow twist you want.
Try Tip Curtis at 615-654-4445.

Yes, in their start up with the QLA in the mid 90's, they unthinkingly began cutting that on new production RB barrels until they discovered the error of their ways and discontinued the practice.

You must have had a run of luck to have gotten two as they only made a few of thenm before they stopped putting the QLA in RB barrrels.

My first .54 had one and I sent it back, told TC to build me one without it or give me a refund...I'm glsd you like yours, I woulnd't own one.

I knew that GM made those drop in barrels but discontinued them this year. I was looking for a vendor that might still have one in flint and could not locate one. I will give Tip a call first thing in the morning. Thanks for the heads up.

Roundball;
I don't like the QLA on the barrel at all but have learned to live with it. I just wonder whether that would exchange it for a couple without it. I guess I could run it by them and see what they say. With the merger recently I would think they would be a little less receptive to the whole idea as well. They shoot good but don't like it at all and would not buy another with it.

Call Fox Ridge, 1-800-243-4570, menu #3, ask for Ms. Rae DesRosiers...tell her you've given them the old college try but are just not satisfied with them as RB barrels with a doggone QLA on there, losing an inch of rifling, etc, etc...bet she'll replace them at no charge.

I will call them and give it a try. Can't hurt. I will say one thing about TC; they are the best damn company I have ever dealt with-bar none!

I just got my locks replaced at no charge and they are much improved over the old ones; and at no charge of course. Thanks Roundball.

Yeah, the new locks are perfect...I've been shooting several of them year round for 5-6 years now...never had a problem with any of them

thinking about doing the same thing i have a .50 t/c hawken talked to gmb today and put my name on the order list. they say spring i should see it.ordered a .54 roundball barrel hopefully it works out. this will be the first time ordering acroos the border. they told me that the heli-coil issue is over with and assured me they don't do this practice anymore. thought about a .58 t/c hawken from fox ridge but the red tape getting it across the border is more than im looking for.i will let you know how it works out

Mr Hawken
how sure was green mountian they are doing a run of 15/16 54 flint barrels in round ball twist. am looking to get one myself. Track only has it in smoothbore.
Thanks

And for what it's worth, the .54cal Flint smoothbore barrels are outstanding, both with PRBs and shot loads...

I bought a 32" GM .50 rb barrel for my tc hawkin 2 years ago and I love it. I did have to tap the front sight over as it hit about a foot to the right when I got it but once I got it sighted in it'll drive tacks at 25 yards.

My brand new PA rifle with the roundball barrel doesn't have the QLA on it. I have it on a couple of modern T/C rifles and don't mind it on them but it is useless for roundball shooting.

aNew guy here and i don,t know what QLA is.I am just geting back into muzzleloading .Love the forum.
QLA stands for "Quick Load Accurizer"
Its a design change by TC in its sidelock barrels which creates a "false muzzle" by boring out the lands from the first 1.25" of the barrel...(losing that amount of rifling from the barrel permanently)

The QLA ostensibly is to improve the alignnment of a conical to the centerline of the bore before punching it into the lands with a short starter.
Provides no value in aligning a round sphere like a round ball of course.
