I just bought a TC Hawken at a resonable price,Im wanting to get a Green Mountain barrel blank to improve it's accuracy. What is the best cal. for off hand shooting?

:hmm: Just wondering? What Cal. do you have now and how bad does the one on the rifle shoot? Oh! Welcome to the forum

I primarily punch paper with mine, and hanging steel.
I went with a .40 in 32 inch length and have absolutly NO regrets! but I like a longer gun. if overall length was my concern, I would go with a .45. I have a 32 inch 50 on a mt rifle and it handles well. but I am impressed with the performance of the .40 from GM.

Well, the previous owner did'nt keep it clean.Im wanting to shoot it at Friendship this year which I have not done in a while. The gun fits me very well and I thought upgradeing the barrel would give me a great gun.

What Cal. is the barrel? I can't say from experience but from reading on the forum, others have had some pretty rusted barrels. Clean it good and shoot it. You might be surprised as to how it shoots.

I have a T C in 50 cal and didnot clean it properly after using pyrodex in it for years .I could not hit a flock of barns with it then I got a good deal on a G M 32 cal barrel and put it on . The new barrel did not have a rear sight on it so I had to take the one off of the 50 cal barrel and use it on the new barrel, as I put it on the new barrel I eyeballed the set highth old the blade even with the highth of the front sight and loaded her up . I set a 5 gallon propane cylinder out about 50 yards from my truck and took a shot .when I looked thru my benocks at the target it had a new hole dead center. I loaded a second time an got 2 holes in the same area , loaded once more and got three hole within 3 inches . I never had to touch either of the sight screws.I've shot it about 30 time since then and still have not made any adjustments yet . The best part is I got the brand new GM barrel for 100.00 cash new in the box.

I just bought a .54 caliber barrel GM barrel for my Hawken from Track of the Wolf. Over the years I've always felt the .54 shot better than any other caliber. If you plan on hunting deer, I wouldn't go below a .50 caliber. You can't beat a GM barrel for the T/C. Good luck!
