I’m finishing up my build of the TC Hawken kit. I’m about to install the rear sight. It appears a roll pin is used to fasten the base to the actual sight blade assembly. Since the front mounting screw will be covered by the joint, this will have to be done on the barrel, once the base is attached. I have no roll pin punches. Are there any special techniques to driving this pin in?
I assume it will be difficult to find another roll pin of this size if I destroy it!
in the picture, the sight is sitting on the barrel, with the card giving contrast.

So the rear most mounting screw for the base on yours sits under the roll pin pivot point? Mine didn't, but TC definitely had more than one base mount screw spacing assembly's.
On mine I can pivot the sight assembly clear up and back, so it sits upside down on the barrel ahead of the base, and get a screwdriver on both base mounting screws without having to remove the roll pin.
Putting a roll pin in isn't too bad at all. Just squeeze the end with pliers to pinch it closed enough to get it started, then lightly tap it through while keeping the sight assembly part aligned. When you start it put into the base assembly hole far enough that it is almost flush to the inside gap where the top sight assembly hole will sit. If you have to do it while it is mounted on the barrel be sure to use a non marring hammer of some sort. It will only take very light taps to knock it through if it is aligned.
I think you could find another roll pin that size pretty easily if needed.
You're way more likely to have it possibly go flying and get lost than to mangle it IMO. I wouldn't do it over shag carpet lol.

The threads in the holes in the barrel are not great, I blew them out with compressed air, a tiny drop of oil, and screw will not go in more than half way on fwd hole. I was very careful to start it correctly.
I believe these holes and bolts are 6-38, will try to find a tap and carefully chase the threads.

I've installed roll pins in similar situations using channel locks with well padded jaws. They normally go in very easy and there isn't much chance of having to play the "find the roll pin game"

Common item at lowes

You can make a tool to drive the pin out with a finishing nail just under the pin size. File the nail tip flat.

I made a typo up above, 6-48 threads is what i should have written,. TOTW has the replacement screws, original stock, and I have some on order.
my bad!!!
