A buddy and I shot last Tues. and I found out that the rear sight on my .50 cal TC Hawken wiggles in place. Was told to remove the elevation screw, flip the sight over and I would see set screws under the sight holding the base in place. Even my PDF file of the Hawken shows this process to be viable.

However, my sight's base has some sort of lip/rib that prevents the sight from flipping over after I've removed the elevation screw.

Does anyone know how to fix my sight? Serial number is K338XXX, if that makes any difference.

You need to drift the small pin out of the front of the sight.

Thanks Ebiggs. Doing that would then allow me to remove the sight from the base to get to the set screws? Is there some kind of tool you'd recommend so as not to damage the pin?

Also, if I was to replace the rear sight with a more primitive one where would be a good place to find a TC Hawken-compatible sight? Thanks again.

A small diameter pin punch will drift the roll pin to one side,The Gun Works Muzzleloading Emporium carries a 503 rear sight that is worth checking out.

You should beable to make a drift punch out of a small finishing nail of the proper dia. I did that with one of my rifles and it worked great. For a replacement rear sight take a look at Track of the Wolf. TC use to offer a primiative rear sight that used the holes already in the barrel. Might find one on E Bay. The TC rear sight used a blade front sight. You could also try calling TC and see if they have one laying around.

Track of the Wolf or Dixie. You will have to cut yourself a 3/8th dove tail. Now before you panic, it isn't that hard to do. Just get a new file and go slow.
Still not willing, a local gunsmith should be able to cut one for $30 bucks or so.

Done fixed, that finishing nail advice was on the money. The sight's solid in place, but I'll still check out those others. My thanks. May the buffler roam plenty and the Blackfeet few.

The Gun Works @ thegunworks.com advertises a TC compatible primitive sight. Quality is very good. It might require some adjustment depending on your model.
