So the current nipple on my new to me hawken is functional but seems to have been filed down a little. I plan to do quite a bit of shooting with this thing so I’m going to need some replacements. I understand that I need 1/4 x 28 threads on the replacement nipples. Which nipples would you guys recommend? I would like something that last a long time. Is ampco better than a stainless steel nipple? What about those platinum lined nipples? I see they make one with the correct threads. Is any nipple with the correct threads acceptable or are the other dimensions (length) an issue?

Pretty much any 1/4 x28 nipple will work. A lot of guys like the bronze Tresso ones. I use hot shot ones that have little holes in the sides. The stock ones work fine orTC wouldn't have used them. Don't worry about platinum lining.

I like the Treso nipple too, and the Uncle Mikes OR T/C stainless you see from time to time, and the platinum lined version too… as long as the orifice holds up, I like any of them.

I'm also a fan of the Treso nipples. They last a really long time just shooting PRB.
The first replacement nipple I put in my inherited .54 cal Renegade was a "standard" one from Track of the Wolf or the Possibles Shop. Within about two years it was opened up enough that the hammer was getting blown to half cock when I shot. I then put in a Treso and it is still the one I'm using with no issues, around 6 or 7 years now. I use CCI #11 caps and do find that they fit a bit loose on a Treso until I've fired a couple shots and the nipple gets some fouling on it. When hunting on a clean bore I just pinch the cap a bit to ensure it stays on.

I like the Knight Red Hot nipples. They seem to last forever, and direct a lot of flame to the powder charge. especially good for guns with the patent breech anti chamber like on the Pedersoli's.
