Does anyone know which peep sight will fit this rifle ? Also what is the preferred material for a ram rod ?

I can’t speak for the sight but last week I bought a Treso brand Delrin ramrod for my rifle and it is really good.

Williams does make a barrel mount, don't know the part number. Skinner makes a nice peep for the T/C Renegade, not sure it will fit the Hawken.

I have owned at least 8 TC rifles over the last 50 years, all had wood ramrods, I have never had one break, ever. On the last 3 TCs that I fooled within the last couple of years I found the factory ramrods had a bit too much grain runout to suit me. These consisted of one random parts build, one kit and one with a new and longer GM barrel. I had several Dan Putz hickory ramrod blanks on hand so they all got a new runout free hickory ramrod.

If you can break a 28" hickory ramrod you really have to work at it.

Wood will break, Delrin will not break.

A ramrod properly made from straight-grained Hickory will be pretty difficult to break. I have never broken one ever and neither have my friends. Those who say they do do not know much about it. There is a correct way to use a ramrod or range rod no matter what material you make it from. Follow correct procedures and you will very rarely have a problem.

what about a Williams sight ?

Williams makes a barrel mounted sight set for muzzleloaders but I think they maybe only come in fiber-optics. They made the smooth-sided sights on later TC's that only used one screw to mount. They also make a tang-mount peep sight for them similar to the Lyman 57sml and even offer target knobs for them.

I always soak my wood ram rods in a capped PVC pipe with kerosene when not in use on the gun. Keeps the wood (hickory) flexible so there is little chance of breakage unless grossly abused. I once observed four broken ram rods of wood during a biathlon shoot in -14 degree temps, but mine remained flexible throughout the entire day.

While non-wood RR's may not break, they are too flexible than I like (YMMV, of course).

I've gotten excellent field service over the years with the older T/C resin-impregnated wood RR's.

Peep? Rightnour is a good one. Ramrod? Split hickory. Even dowel turned hickory. Leave the delrin to the inline nuts.

All of my guns have the TC universal aluminum ram rod. One thing to remember is no matter what you use. Make sure that it is pinned. I almost lost a HUGE mule deer because an end came off my ram rod.

Recently "fixed" the terrible ramrod spring on my GPR. It would not retain the slippery Delrin rod and would allow significant forward movement during firing and even carrying. . The replacement spring i made holds rod well but causes it to bow out enough it must be slightly guided into the lowest ferrule. Not hard and worth the tiny effort to do so. It has become automatic and find i do it on all my rifles and shotguns. I have witnessed the bloody and painful result of broken rods on the range and during a timed team shoot. Many were new shooters with hardware store doweling others were factory rods including TC and CVA (the latter being the worst). I think all were shooters fault with either failure to clean bore or gripping rod wrong.
