I just got a kentucky rifle in 50 caliber percussion. If you hold the rifle and shake it the trigger rattles. Its loose. Is this normal. It seems to function ok although I have not shot it yet. Any suggestions

Yeah it’ll rattle if you shake the stock. No biggie. If you dont want it to rattle don’t shake the stock lol. Totally normal for it to have a little play in it. You may get a dozen suggestions on how to shim it to stop it but it’s probably a fruitless endeavor .

My Traditions deerhunter rifle, 50 caliber has a bit of a loose trigger as well. It does lock up solid at full cock. Never worried too much about it.

Yep. That’s just how those Traditions and some CVAs are. Been shooting them fer years. Nothing to worry about.

Is it ok that the trigger is still a little loose when gun is full cocked

Yes, it is. They are somewhat cheaply made but will last for years if not abused.

I have one CVA pistol that I’ve been shooting about 30 years. The trigger wobbles and was never very smooth but the gun is still accurate to about 15 yards.

Although I haven't done it, I have read of using a ballpointpen spring in the trigger assembly to take up the slack, filing a notch in the horizontal section to hold it in place.
