I have a .50 with a 12 gauge barrel as well. Terrific percussion hunting rifle. Light and handy.

I did have a time getting an accurate load but I found one. For many years I carried my New Englander during regular deer season (other choice was a slug shotgun in these parts). Well worth $250 if it is in good shape. The barrel alone is worth $150 to someone with the shotgun that want a rifle option.

And with the scarcity of parts, worth some money.

Picked up a kit New Englander (right handed unfortunately) that might just get some parts added and become a flinter smoothie some day.

As much as I dislike the TC Hawken and Renegade, the NE just fits me. I do have a .50, choke tubed shotgun barrel, Grey Hawk with .50 and .54 barrels, and a Tree Hawk 12ga with no choke tubes.

The 12bore with choke tubes can be very impressive. I've only shot the Tree Hawk 12 bore with PRBs, and it is impressive despite its lack of sights.

NE shotgun at Birch Run, MI gunshow (biggest show in state) today. $300. Supposedly never shot & I believe it.

I've got a N E rifle but have been looking > 5 years for a drop in sg barrel.

Why don't you buy a beat up New Englander barrel on ebay, and have it bored out to the gauge you want. I saw a rough NE barrel sell for $23.00 plus shipping last week. You just have to have patience when buying on ebay. I figured >5 years would have gotten you an inexpensive barrel by now. I think Bob Hoyt will do a rebore for about $100. Guys correct me if I'm wrong.

Is the New Englander the carbine octagon to round version of the Renegade? I shot one of those and liked it a lot. I have never seen one for sale locally.

The New Englander was round barreled and percussion only as was the camo version (Tree Hawk) and stainless version Grey Hawk. The White Mountain carbine and Pennsylvania Hunter (and carbine) were both octagon to round, but with stocks similar to the New Englander rather than the Renegade.

Thanks for the education! All that I have seen for sale locally have been Renegades and a few Hawkens. Sidelocks are very thin around here.

I think that's becoming a growing fact everywhere, especially for the TC's. Drove both ways across the continent this winter and saw the inside of an awful lot of gun shops with very few sidelocks and almost no TCs. Know a lot of guys shooting the moderns who have a TC sidelock or two in their closets. They use words like "collector value" and they plan to get rich now that TC's are no longer made. Can't talk sense into them, but I can laugh in their faces! :rotf:

I bought one a few years ago from a friend and it was new in the box for $200.

I would buy it if I was you!! Mine is a shooter and it is in 12 gauge. I have been playing with different loads and it is nothing but fun.

What's different besides the barrel channel?

The WMC has a rubber butt pad. Other than that, I'm not sure there is any difference other than the barrel channel. Pa Hunters are all flintlocks, yes?

You did well to buy that NE shotgun. Do you have a rifle barrel to go along with it?

No, I do not. But I do have a TC Big Boer in .58 cal. which I love.
