I will give this a try!!thanksZonie said:When I bought a used GPR a bottle of TC No 13 Bore Cleaner came with it.
A few weeks later after shooting some of my Cap & Ball pistols I thought I would try it to clean my pistols.
After running a patch wetted with #13 thru the bore a few times, I ran a dry patch thru the bore. It came out rusty.
I thought "well, maybe I didn't get it clean with just one application of #13 so I again ran the wet patch thru the bore followed by a dry patch.
This patch also came out rusty.
I then proceeded to clean the bore with soap and water followed by dry patches. None of them had rust.
Wondering about this, I proceeded to clean another pistol with soap and water followed by dry patches. They did not have any rust on them so I ran a clean patch wetted with #13 thru the already clean bore, counted to 10 and ran a dry patch. It also came out rusty.
I don't know why, perhaps #13 just cleans too well but after it repeatedly caused a surface rust to form within seconds of its use I decided then and there that I would never use the stuff again.
I still have the bottle of it sitting on a shelf. I guess I would throw it away but, as my wife knows, I never throw anything away even if I consider it useless.
As for using it as a patch lube, I wouldn't.
Not only might it cause the same surface rust I was seeing, it doesn't have anything in it to lubricate the patch/bore or to protect it after the shot.
If you want to try a really good patch lube that not only does an excellent job of wiping the bore but also leaves a coating of oil to protect the bore after the shot, buy yourself some Castor Oil, Alcohol, Witch Hazel, Murphys OilSoap and a bottle. Then make up a batch of Stumpkillers Moose Milk. You can find the instructions for how to mix it in the Links area of this forum.
