Hello all. I was thinking og purchasing a TC New Englander. It does not have choke tubes so I do not know what the bore is. Firstly, are they a good shotgun? Secondly, what would you think the bore would be? And thirdly, can a patched roundball be safely fired from this gun? It is new in the box so the quality is not in question, only its capabilities. Thanks in advance
Robert

Yes they are good shotguns. Light, quick, reliable. If you can buy it for a decent price, do.

Yours is probably a cylinder bore @ .720 but you'll have to mic it to know for sure exactly.

I used mine last year for the smoothbore woodswalk at Friendship with a .715 ball and .010 patch. It was tight. A smaller ball and thicker patch would probably work better.

What Jethro Said..I prefer the wood stock very user friendly-have not shot round balls out of mine..Its light so shooting the .700 ball it will rock you some! I own 2 one flint-recently convered ....one persuction..they are fun and they work!

By all means get it, you will like it. Mine is 12 ga and cylinder and I thought that was the only way TC made them. Possibly this isn't correct but it's the only way I ever saw one. Lifetime warranty and you can customize the load that suits your needs a great deal.

Both of mine are threaded for choke tubes -came from the factory that way--very user friendly!

Thanks for the insight. I have purchased it, new in the box for $225. I am thinking it was a good deal.
You did good, now go and shoot the hell out of it...

Congratulations, those New Englanders are good shotguns. I'm sure you know this, but you can pick up a .50 rifle barrel for it, too.

:hatsoff:

Rifled barrels are both .50 and .54. The NE barrels were blued, but the Grey Hawk barrels that will interchange are SS. Ohter barrels that might fit were from the Tree Hawk, High Plains Sporter (NE with PG stock), and possibly the Black Mountain Magnum.

I've shot .695" PRBs from mine, and recoil was pretty mild with 100gr ffg.

Hi
Could you tell me what breechplug and what lock you used to make the flint conversion as i am interested in doing the same to my TC.

Good Cheer started a post..T/C changed to flint

this will help if you look this up!

The plug is the original percussion-not removed from the barrel--the lock came from T/C

here's a good picture of the comparison.

Mighty fine looking rifle!
I have a .50, and am waiting for a 12 ga. to arrive. Would like to find a .54 to make the set complete.
Most of my guns are custom made, but that little New Englander really grabs my interest.
They are great rifles, and you can't beat their prices.
Best regards

For a factory gun it's tops!

Shot turkey-ducks-geese with it last season--Those blankity-Blank grouse got the best of me with it last year...I'm out for revenge this September :rotf:

Use mine with the 12 ga. barrel only..think I have 3 ea. 50 cal barrels laying around looking to find a new home.

:shocked2: Is that the original stock???!!!
That is some really pretty curl in that wood!
