I have a 45 cal patriot with beautiful wood. The Stock cracked yesterday. It cracked from the screw hole down to the trigger on only one side. I was shooting 20 grains of 3f goex which should not have over stressed the wood. (Shooting very good groups also.) I really would like to continue to use this gun. Need suggestions on how to repair it or to find another stock. I know finding another stock may not be easy. your help is always appreciated. Thanks.

I've had good luck with Super Glue, it's very "wet" and will flow into small cracks.

You have to be careful when loading the pistol. I don't let my Patriot stock rest against anything hard like a bench top or loading stand. I hold mine in my hand the whole time. No stress on the stock that way. :hmm:
As stated, the superglue trick should work for you too.

Don't mess with it.Send it back to TC.What do you have to loose?

I should have mentioned earlier but I forgot, be careful when you put the lock bolt in. Sometimes people tighten the bolt too much, causing the stock to crack. The recoil finishes what the tight bolt started. Just get the lock bolt snug.

As for sending the stock back to TC, I don't know if they would cover that since the factory burned down. :idunno: They don't make the pistol anymore. The other parts should still be covered.

Seeing how there is apparently a fair number of Patiots with cracked and/or broken stocks, I would think there is a market for replacement stocks.

I seem to recall a post some time back about (and I couldn't find it again) a poster who had a new stock duplicated. It might have been 'a senior moment', I've had a few recently.

I would really like to know someone who can duplicate the stock. I would like to continue to shoot it. It was very accurate when I could shoot it.

The stock on my Patriot very old (but new to me) pistol cracked as well. I put a small but long screw through the crack above and in front of the lock bolt. The head of the screw was turned down to make it less obvious...sort of a threaded pin now. I also put a screw into the front end of the lock plate to try to tie it into the front of the stock. I also found that some of the wood inside the stock was very thin where it didn't need to be and was cracked as well. I bedded in the hooked breech plug with steel epoxy to make more of the recoil go directly into the thickest portion of the stock. I also found that the lock bolt was hitting the breech plug, look for wear marks. I ground away some metal to prevent impact on the bolt.

I don't know if superglue will work well but worth a try.

The obvious cure is to avoid stress from the reloading stand (as mentioned above) and not using big loads. These guns are very fragile but they are great shooters.

I should clarify that the bedding was for the fixed tang (I hope that is the correct term) that the hooked breech fits into. I found the fixed tang was hitting the lock bolt and I surmised that this was stressing the wood to the point of breaking it. Removing some steel left room for the recoil.
