TC prices

We have a gun show going on in town right now. Yesterday, I saw quite a few TC 'hawkens' and other spagetti versions there. Prices were very reasonable. Most were at the $150.00 to $200.00 range. And, I suspect, there was some dickering room on those. Especially today, we are having the beginning of an ice storm. Vendors might be anxious to sell low rather than pack up. I half considered picking one up just for parts. Mine is 45+ years old and has counteless jillions of shots on the lock. A replacement stand by might not be a bad idea.

It probably wouldn't hurt to have some spare parts. Maybe you could spark up a 'new' rifle with those extra pieces. Given all that sunny weather you must be having down there, could be a good winter/ ice age project. :hmm:

Most TCs I see in that price range the barrels look like sewer pipes So I wouldn't expect much for that price :idunno:

TC Hawkins and Renegades are 150-200 here also. Been about the same for a few years. One in less than perfect shape is less than that. I am at the point I hate to go in a pawn shop anymore. Walk in empty handed and come out broke with my arms full. :redface: Larry

I want one in .45 caliber but, can't seem to find a decent one under $400.00. When they do come up, my money has went somewhere else! :shake:

I do so hate to dip into the 'flintlock fund' and waste money on stupid worthless nonsense like groceries and tuition payments

anyway, if you find a T/C for 150, and the bore is pretty much toast, remember Bobby Hoyt, whose prices are more than fair and whose work is truly outstanding ... you still come out with a pretty well priced product.

it's not the greatest and fanciest looking rifle in the case, but it'll provide you with a lifetime of good service if you hold up your end of the deal ...

I have not seen any TC rifles around here at any of the gun shows I have attended. Any muzzleloaders that do show up are of the modern type.

Went to a show last month hoping to trade a China 12 ga. o/u that I took in trade. Was looking for a BP shotgun/smoothbore but out of 30 tables there was only one traditional ML and it was a new GPR 54 caplock. Hit the pawn shops last week and outa 4 shops found one sidelock, a CVA with two bbls a 45 and a 50 for $500. Pickins kinda slim around here. Jim

Last time I went to the local Pawn shop that has BP guns they were priced pretty high. Even the POS need to be rebored guns on the rack were priced in the $250+ range. The one nice Lyman rifle they have is used, in fairly acceptable condition, but he wants like $350 for it. Now the pistols he has are more reasonable. He has an old Walker clone that needs a small amount of work in the case collecting dust for the last 6 months for I think it was around $200.

But our game laws only allow for sidelocks during muzzle loader hunts. So they are a bit more expensive due to demand.

AZ game laws let ya use modern rifles but cannot shoot anything but small game with a BP revolver?

My last ML project was based on donor renegade parts. Lock, tang, breech plug, trigger and sights. I could have used the trigger guard too but chose a different style. Threw in a new barrel and upgraded maple stock and it's a new gun.

My nephew just sold his TC Hawken a month ago to a gun shop and got $350.00 for it. The Hawken was like new, but I was surprised he got that much for it. Makes me wonder what the gun shop is going to sell it for.

Not so much here in SE Mich. I bought my son a TC High Plains a few weeks ago. In pristine condition with about a half tin of caps, an unopened lb. of Pyrodex, and a nipple wrench for $125.00.

We went to a local gun show last weekend, and saw the following:
2 TC Hawkens, one for $200 and one for $250
A CVA Hawken for $175
A Lyman Great Plains Rifle for $175. This gun was in beautiful condition, bore like a mirror. I should've bought it.
A Spanish Kentucky Rifle knock off, cheap, 2 piece stock with a brass band covering the seam. $110.00

All of them were in good usable condition and were worth the asking price, and I'd be willing to bet I could've gotten each one for less than asking.

I shoulda' bought that Lyman...

But I ended up at a local custom builder's table, started talking, and almost spent some real money. I'm going to call him about a build. I've heard he's highly regarded and found out he lives about 5 miles from me.
