I can't find my original post on this I started last year but finally got around to starting on the kit build after getting my belated stock delivery six months late.
I did get the dove tails cut and the breech plug fit last winter but was stalled waiting for the stock that showed up in June.
I elected to make my own vent as I have never cared for the white lighting design which vectors main charge gas outward in the unnecessary fix of reducing the flash channel length. It was successfully acomplished and finished off on the interior flush with the arch of the bore wall.
About the only complaint with the kit was the tang mortise cut was over size and I had to use an alternate breech plug tang assembly to fill the factory mortise.
I got the architecture/shaping correct to the instructions and pictures and found the kit pretty simple to do with the hardest part for me was getting the fore end cap fitted as I wanted which in the end came out well. I did omit the copper rivet to keep it in but may add it later on.
I also made some small inletting errors that bug me but over all am pretty satisfied with the results.
One departure I made from the instructions was in the maple stock dying as I do not care for the dark aqua fortis look so made my own water base stain in a denatured alchol base.
It is a reddish brown blend I like a lot looking much like French Red stain.
Here are a few pictures of the build.
