Have just recieved an e.mail fro a collector of Tanegashima/Teppo who lives just outside of Hiroshima, his invite to visit is very tempting but will have to check out the time/cost of a side trip from Kyoto.
Any idea?. :peace:

We did not get out as far as Hiroshima, instead spent some extra time poking around the back streets of Kyoto and Osaka.
Between Gion and and our Ryokan, tucked away was what at first looked like a tiny junk shop. On closer inspection it was the most interesting 'Dump' of a shop that had everything from awfull sword mounts to two Tanegashima. The first was just a barrel, huge bore,12" in length and weighed around 80/100lb. The work was plain as are most hand cannon and quite deep rust pitting. The second was a better but wormed stocked Ten Mon,the barrela had remains of inlay and although signed was to rusted to read the characters.
So my luck was in!,to return home and off load the goodies would have rounded the trip off well.
The price when asked ........

One thing that I have learned in my years of trading is that "Value is in the eyes of the owner!" I grew up in the antique business and must admit that I am often astonished at the prices that some people perceive things to be worth. I have concluded that there are three prices for something. What the seller thinks its worth, what the buyer is willing to pay, and what is a fair market value.

HHeeeeeeeelp

I have just sold a Tanegashima and found that (a) it is too long to post (b) no carrier will accept Antique guns.........
Major problem as I have eight more.
