I agree with @smo. The grease may be dried and gum up the works, but after a bit of cleaning that rifle will work.

Don't change it; you got an old classic that will give great service as is.

Doesn't really need either, but what that heck, it's your gun, don't ask here for permission to do whatever it is you want with your own gun!!

I'm with hanshi, I think a nose cap would detract from the classic look. Any makers marks or other markings. The only thing I would do is clean the bore/breech and take the lock out and clean and oil it.
