Cut cleanin'patches last night. Tomorrow will be the 2nd range trip with the .54 flinter. Can't wait! Range opens 9:00 AM. You guys enjoy makin' some smoke! :hatsoff:

That's the way I do it on Saturday mornings...I just set all the gear in the blazer on Friday nights, get up at 5:30am, fill a thermos & drink cooler, grab the rifle and be at the range shooting by 7:00am...back inside the cover of the "relatively" cool garage cleaning the rifle by 9:30am before the heat, and especially the humidity, get too high

Well, I tried out some of Stumpy's Moose Milk as a dry lube.............three of my guns like it so far.....tried it in my 36 and 62 rifles today. When I first tried it as a wet lube, I wasn't very impressed at all, but as a dry lube, it really shines!

I've been doing most of my shooting on Sunday a.m. The PGC range opens at 8:00 if I go over early on Sunday and shoot 100 yards.
Behind the house I have to wait a bit longer as we have a neighbor down the way with a couple little kids. A little more convenient behind the house because if it gets to hot and sticky I can slip into the cool basement and sip a Pepsi. ahhh
Take care,snagg

A great therapy session this morning...all alone at the range that early, saw some does driving in.....50 Speer .440s, layered charges of .20grns Goex 3F followed by 30grns Pyrodex RS, (down to my last pound of RS), knapped the flint once, never wiped the bore...life is good!

I just got back an hour ago.All I saw was jackrabbits and some Ute horses on the Rez.After the first shot I didnt see them horses no more.Guess they didnt like the smell of the ol' smoke pole.

Shhh, don't tell no one my secret. Them daggone golfers can't figure out what's happening to there golf balls.

Just got through cleaning the .54...A beautiful morning at the range! Two other flintlockers were shooting which is pretty rare here. One guy had a real nice .54 he had made from scratch (including the lock!) some years ago. My goal for today was to find a stouter hunting load. 80 grains 2f grouped pretty well but point of impact was several inches lower than 70 grains 3f. Jumped to 90 grains 3f and BINGO! it grouped well. Shot another 5 shot group at 50 yards and it was almost identical group. The Sells rifle is ready for hunting season....

Thanks to Birddog6's suggestion I used a fouling scraper at the range every so often and final cleanup at home was much easier. Ordered a clamp-on flintlock EZ-cleaner and am going to make one of Keith's cleaning kit when it's delivered.

Just gotta say, flintlocks are awesome and I'm blessed to have one that's even better than I could of hoped for. Roundball has it right..what could be more therapeutic than a day making smoke (unless its a weekend in the woods :winking: )?
