Does anyone want to take a guess at which traditional lock system is the best seller, Flint or Percussion?

Which do you think accounts for the most total sells?

Flint ?%
Percussion ?%

I would "guess" the percussion would sell, and be in use, at least 5:1 over the flintlock.
I have no data to base this on, just observation. It seems that here in the Northwest the flinter has fallen from grace, even more so, in the past five years.
I would also guess, from what I see at the range, that the in-liners have captured the imagination of our younger shooters, who lack the money to own more than one ML, and may in fact be the most dominant ML seen on the range since hunting season is coming up.
I also think the majority are there for all the wrong reasons.
Truthfully, I wish it were the other way around. But I have no say either way....I just look, listen, and wish.

Well here in PA flintlock definetly outsells percussion because only flintlock are legal in late m/l season. Hopefully with the early m/l season being open to inlines we will have quite an opportunity for a lot of conversions to flintlock ASAP. :winking:.

Percussion.
It would be interesting to learn from the companies that make both types, i.e., Lyman, T/C, etc. how many cap vs. flint they sell.
That would be a good indicator.
I too would bet it's 5 to 1 or greater.
O.K. MM now's yer chance to shine. Shoot an e-mail to Lyman and T/C and inquire. Maybe they will actaully respond.
On a personal note I know i was VERY reluctant to get into flint as it seemed there was so very little written information on flint shooters.
Now, with the internet and person can glean plenty of info about this mysterious world of rocks and sparks.
Also I thought the things ALL went click fsssssssssssst boom! T'aint so.
The caveat is "beware! They are addictive!" ::

Yeah, I'd have to go with Maxi and say percussion, even among traditionals, outsells flinters 5:1, maybe more.

It takes an elevated level of enlightenment and sophistication before a body is ready to strive for the more advanced subtleties of smokin and stinkin. That, and bad teeth so you're more interested in the mashed potatoes than the venison.
