Caplock and flintlock both, and they're both ending up being neglected because I've spent months working on the deer proof flower garden with integral passive rather than active (kinetic) defenses.

PS,
A flintlock TC Renegade rebored to .58 is the modern analog to a jaeger rifle.

Are the Kibler’s meant for round balls in .58? Seems many who shoot .58s are firing minie balls or conicals of some kind?
I’ve ben told by others here that my Kibler in 58 with round bottom rifling is only for roundball. I would still try a conical but have not yet. I do have a Parker Enfield and lee mold for it and only shot it with roundball. Used what i had in stock.

Some years ago I was shooting my .58 at a match using 60 grains of 3F for the 25 yard six bull. I was distracted by the little blonde girl shooter near me and double charged it with 120 grains of powder. I knew it and tried to nonchalantly shoot it so no one would know.
She came right on over after it went off to see if I was ok. Today she tells people how we met.
Hmmm, good tactics!

What happened to this excellent thread?
Oh I am indeed a .58 fan. My Double pedersoli is a Anomaly as it’s very very accurate and regulated well. POI for PRBs and REAL 445gr bullets are same out to 80 yards from the Peep sight that’s set at 50 yards dead on. About 4” low at 80 yards…With a water quenched 8-9 Bhn and off hand rested from shooting sticks like safari hunting.
I Use 2F Goex at 75gr , a modest charge. Yet with 3 leaf Express sights I can see over the peep- it can reach out there. I did just get 10lbs of Swiss to try with the RWS caps. Hope it shoots just as accurately, with increased Performance. I’ll keep the Goex for shorter range target shooting and hunting. I’m sure a 445gr 9Bhn .58 is plenty at 100yards , If accurately placed it will do some serious work on most anything, let alone a 280gr Prb. Granted it’s going slow, yet like a Freight train, not much will slow it down. A pass thru 9/16th hole in and out with be sufficient I’m sure.
It’s about 10lbs with Speed loader,Leather and sling. So I just got a T/C Big bore. At 50yards zero the .445 Real and same Goex 75gr hits accurately… yet at 80yards (off bench) it’s dropping more than the longer barrel Kodiak (Off hand) and will probably get a PRB as I’d like a flatter trajectory. It’s about 7-8 lbs and that 75 gr with a 445gr hunk of lead gave a good shove on my face. Great little rifle, easy to carry and basically meat and potatoes- No bs- get to it hunters rifle. Nice it shoots accurately the same charge/projectile as my Kodiak… yet with simple sights and that charge- 80 yards is about it. So a Prb and more powder most likely will happen.

Perhaps I’ll just try 75 grains of the Swiss 2F and see what happens. It’s supposed to have increased energy with same charge as Reg Goex- Perhaps I’ll be fortunate again.

Gotta love the .58s !
