Big brown truck delivered the Rem with large grip and oversize frame tonight from Dixie. Very nice finish from blueing to wood grips. Not a blem or scratch anywhere except the brass inside the trigger guard needs polishing but I expected that from what I've read. Timing seems spot on and I had to dry fire it once to test the trigger and I like it. My Colt is a bit too light in my opinion.
I have never handled a 1858 before and I have big hands and have read SO much about the middle knuckle getting hammered that I opted for this large framed version. I may not have needed it because my middle knuckle totally goes past the trigger guard. I was worried about not reaching the hammer with my thumb without screwing up my grip but all is well there. The hammer comes back easily and don't believe I need a lighter spring.
My nipple wrench will not work on this cylinder; its too wide. Is there a special wrench for the Rem? It works fine on my Colt.
Anyway, I'll disassemble tonight and de-grease but I want to wait to fire it until I get a proper nipple wrench. In the mean time I'll just fondle it!
PS, I had a wee bit of trouble getting the cylinder back in but have that figured out nicely.
