DAVEK...

I'm considering a fly fishing vest for blackpowder doves this year after all, in spite of how hot it will probably be...all those little pockets for powder, shot, OP cards, cushion wads, OS cards, capper, etc, seem awfully inviting.

You've were going to use one in the dove fields last year...how did that work...what are the pros & cons?

Thanks

Roundball, I was going to use a flyfishing vest and it would have worked out great! But, I used a turkey hunting vest instead.(Cabelas) It is camo and has larger pockets on both bottom sides. Also has a game pouch in back. I can't find a down side to it all. As a matter of fact, I use it for all my muzzleloading shotgunning. I am sure everyone will find a pattern of equipment placement, but there are like double pockets low on each side and the inner pocket of the two is also divided. So on the right I carry powder flask, over powder cards and cushions. Dump the powder down the barrel and when you return the flask and measure, grab a card and cushion in the same motion. Ram those down and then from your left side, grab the shot pouch and load the barrel with shot. When you return the shot pouch, grab the over shot cards and ram them down. The barrels are now loaded and you are ready to grab the capper from around your neck or the primer flask. Now, it is not real period correct, but I have since added a tube that is used for golf clubs to my right side. This holds a fiberglass ramrod with bore guide. The tube works as a holster and also keeps me from getting BP crundge all over me. You would be amazed how efficient this can be! This works great for doves, rabbits and trap shooting at the local club.If you are using premeasured powder containers keep those in the right pocket and put the empty ones in the game pouch in back. There is even pockets left over for Handi-wipes. :winking:

Save yourself a step Dave and glue your fiber cushion wads to the overpowder wad before lubing them. I have been using this method and it works great.

roundball: You could also look at one of the carpenter aprons the ones with about six pockets that tie around your waist. They hold about everything handy and are easy to remove if necessary.
