I will again let T.G. Pineyone give the details on one of the nicest hawks that I have ever seen!

This is a 1770,s Augusta Co. Virginia Hawk that went to a Collection in Trenton New Jersey. It is engraved on both side of the blade, the rigth side is in the John Davidson style and the left side is after engraving on a patchbox by Ezra Engle Tyler Co. The cleanout is an 18th Century Key that I got from the Colonial Williamsburg site- was actually used till recently on one of the Shops. The carving is in the style of the over windows Ellyptical- most fine 18th century windows had them. The mouth piece is of brass and highly engraved. i used Nitric Acid from Eric Kettenburg that he mixed for me. TGP

Beautiful work. I love the carving pattern. Different but very much in keeping with the time period.

Ken coming from you, it is quite a compliment as you have graced the Hill of ole Tenn with many fine Hawks yourself. TGP
