Broke down and ordered a Pedersoli percussion LePage pistol. (I was inspired by the recent pistol contest and I do have a b-day coming up shortly). UPS man dropped it off yesterday evening. Had a chance to take it apart and go over it pretty good. Looks to be worth the price. Inletting and checkering are good. The lock is well polished, inside and out, barrel flats are smooth and not wavy. Rifling looks good and the barrel appears to be very smooth already (not sure if the factory laps it or not). The screw slots all line up, too and it didn't take a gorilla to get them off.
Of course I have to go to a wedding today so I can't shoot it. Then my work week starts Sunday so it's going to be late next week before I can give it a try. :( Timing is everything.

Well at least you have the pistol. I've been drooling over a LePage for sometime now. Congrats on you purchase. Please post some results from you shooting sessions. I know what you mean about timing: waiting on my son to finish his chores today so we can go shoot. He just finished and it just start to snow :( It was sunny all morning until now.

I've used one of these for about 10-years now. Dixie catalogue gives a recommended load of 25g FFFg with a 124g .433" ball and 10 thou' patch. IMO this is a stiff load - particularly for target work up to 25 metres. I've been looking over my old chronograph records (1997) and obtained the following:

12g FFFg 10-shots ave MV 798 fps Extreme spread 46 fps.

15g FFFg 10-shots ave MV 847 fps Extreme spread 17 fps.

Either of the above ought to be satisfactory for target shooting at normal distances. Use more powder if you want but it'll be a waste and you'll have to contend with more fouling than you need to. You'll find the fouling is usually worse at the breech end.

I'm sure you'll be very happy with the gun - the set trigger is excellent but dry-fire it a few times first to get used to it - breathe and it will go off! You can dry-fire it with the hammer down on the nipple, just push the trigger blade forwards until it clicks, it's then set - don't cock the hammer.

Let us know how you get on,

Tight Wad

Who sells them? Can you give us a link.
It looks like it shoots well.

I got this one through Dixie Gunworks. Beuchamps Flintlocks ETC also keeps several of the Pedersoli guns and is the primary parts center for north america. Dixie has a website /online shopping while FLetc does not. As I recall, this one made it the 1500 miles from Tennessee in two days flat.

One thing you might look out for. The set trigger adjustment has a way of unscrewing to the point that it can fire spontaneously. I degreased and coated the adjustment screw with locktite. This works.
