Ah, I love that movie! It's about as bad as they come (for the most part) but I did enjoy some of the details like Charlton Heston's flint and steel work, the weapons handling and the trapping sequences. as hollywood as they were, it's more than most movies have shown. I think I'll go home and watch it tonight. I guess I'd better get back to work now!
Oh, and another thing. Watch the expression on Charlton Heston's face when he's lying with his little Rondybunny. Both he and she flinch right before Running Moon throws water on 'em, Hilarious!
heard the movie is based on a book called "the last Rendesvous, or some such. I'd like to read that.

I wore one DVD out and bought another. Don't know how many times I have seen it. May just watch it again tonight!
Old Charlie

It is one of my favorites. Not all that PC, but a great movie. I have a couple copies of it, just in case i wear one out.

Back in the eighties I copied most of it onto audio cassette and would listen to in the car. that tape would pop up periodically for years afterward. To this day the opening theme has special meaning for me.

A good one for sure, loved Brian Keith's character.

Can't think right now but did Heston and Keith star in any other movies together?

Here's what IMDB has to say:
"Great Battles of the Civil War, The" (1994) (mini)
70th Annual Academy Awards, The (1998) (TV) 5.9/10 (350 votes)
Arrowhead (1953) 5.4/10 (263 votes)
Mountain Men, The (1980) 5.8/10 (389 votes)
...aka Wind River (1980) (USA: working title)
Sam Peckinpah's West: Legacy of a Hollywood Renegade (2004) (TV) 7.1/10 (73 votes)

After knockin him off his horse "Don't ya wanna have fun no more? :rotf:

Ya' can't farm in Oregon, ain't nothing that will grow there"

"wagons! you can't get no wagons over the Rockies.

Another one of my favorite Keith lines,

"Assumptin, don't do no more G**Damned Assumptin".

"If I dont get some whiskey soon I'm gonna die!"

"I hear somthin"
"Aww you've been hearin somthin all the way from Missura."

This is one of those movies that got me started in blackpowder. I watch The Mountain Men, Jeremiah Johnson and The Patriot to much (according to the wife). If I am not watching these movies I will watch Quigly Down Under, The Last of the Mohicans and Windwalker(a great pre-white man movie with subtitles).
