Hi! I am the next beginner. I live in Poznań, the big city in western Poland. Since one month i have colt navy and now i learn how to use it. I have to say the beginning is hard... Why colt navy? Because this revolver has a place in our history. 1863 there was a big, bloody rising against Russian Empire. Poland was in those days under russian, prussian and austro-hungarian rules. And colt navy was the statuatory gun of polish officers in this rising. Insurgents have used sharps rifles and revolver-rifles of colt (colt root) too, specialy troops from western Poland. I have seen one sharps rifle in Musem of Polish Army in Warsaw, in exhibition of relics from rising 1863.
The BP shooting is not popular in Poland yet. In Poznań live about 1 million people and i meet every time the same guy with muzzleloding gun in the range! No one else in our shooting club use them. It is very strange, because we have a long tradition of shooting. The first time a cannon was used in Poland on battlefield about 1300.
What about me ? I'm 30. My profession is archaeology, in particular the roman period. And now i start the colt- adventure. I want buy a sharps rifle too in the near future.

Welcome to the forum, it's good to have you here.

Perhaps black powder shooting is gaining popularity in your country. The number of BP shooters just doubled in your club, right?

I know there are a few Colt Navy shooters in this forum, myself included; so if you need any help or advice there are a lot of people here to help you, if you ask.

Good luck on getting that Sharps and hopefully you will be able to introduce more people to muzzleloaders, cap & ball revolvers and the Muzzleloading Forum.

Welcome Bartek, hope you enjoy the forum as much as I do! :redthumb:

Welcome to the forum. We have a growing membership of fellows from other countries. It is nice to hear that the shooting sports manage to survive elsewhere.

Welcome Bartek. Delighted to have someone from far away Poland join us here.

I had heard about the Polish revolt as there were some Polish soldiers who served here in America during our Late Great Family Feud (American Civil War or the War of the Rebellion). Some of those officers returned in time to fight for Poland.

Can you describe the gun laws in Poland for us please?
How difficult is it to get black powder and caps there in Poland?

Gary

Gary, one of my ancestors was a member of polish conspiration gruop. After same assasination he had to run from Poland. He came to USA and during the Civil War he was a volunteer in Union Army. His name was pvt. Stanislav Nehring. He was a good soldier. After war the government has given him a pice of land in Texas for his service. This is all story i know.
What is interesting - in my city, Poznan, we have a big garrison cementary. There are graves of soldiers of WWII, WWI and polish-soviet war in 1920. In this quarter there are graves of american pilots, who died in 1920. They ware volunteers by polish army. American bombers have supported in 1920 the polish cavalry and infantry against the Red Army, especialy during the offensive to Kiev. In this time Red Army had only a few planes. Specialy for cossacks the planes was most dangerous weapon. They had no effective weapon against them in this time.
In the same war (1920) there was between polish troops so called "Blue Army" of general Jozef Haller. They had blue uniforms (!). The "Blue Army" was formed in USA form american volunteers of polish provenience. In the beginning they was a part of French Army during WWI and later, in 1918 they came to the Poland, which was independent yet. During the polish - soviet war in 1920 the cavalry of "Blue Army" have watched the polish-german border on the west. But this was not just a passiv watching. They have captured a few ports by Baltic Sea and have given the Poland the entrance to the sea after most 200 years!. The infantry troops of "Blue Army" was used in the bloody battles of Radzymin and Warsaw next to american bombers. The battle of Warsaw is called in the polish history "the Miracle by Vistula" because of two reasons.
1. This was 15. August, the catholic festivity of "Holly Mother the Quinn of Poland". In the opinion of simple country people this was self-evident interference of Holly Mother against "Bolshevik Evil".
2. From military point of view it was one of most glorious victorys in Europe.

The "Blue Army" has carried from France to Poland first tanks. Those tanks was used with success against the Red Army by assault of Kiev and by defence of Kovno in Lithuania.
In this moment it is all i can say.

please move on ..either PM each other or move to the
general interest forum--------Thank You
