Although I've built many things that are far more elaborate and complicated than this, it is still one of my favorite things. About as primitive as it gets; a walking/measuring stick. Exactly 6' high, marked off in feet and inches. Useful in the woods.

Gunny, i hate to be the one to break it to you, but the cat always hears you coming (unless kitty is deaf- some are; they're usually white).

dogs have owners, but cats have a staff- i have had a cat in the household since i was (according to my mother, anyway) about two years old, and i can confirm this storied fact on an entirely empirical basis. also, cats have two hobbies, the first of which is to mess with their humans' heads to that maximum extent possible, whenever it is convenient to do so. (the second hobby is left up to the cat)

so, if you sneak up on a cat, they do notice. kitty is too polite to mention it, or pretends to be startled when you touch him (or her, depending on the sex of the cat, of course).

good luck with your future cat sneaking. hope i didn't spoil it for you.

p.s. - i like the stick

Gunny I use one like that I carved some details on. I had lower back fussion surgery many years ago now and the stick has become invaluable in the woods. And I always got the option of leaving it in my truck or I have tied it off too my backpack when circumstances dictated!

When I am jump/stalk hunt it can come in quite handy if I use it right! Not only does is help me with my walking and balance.
I am right handed I have found I can throw the walking stick into my left hand and using it as a leaning post, by locking it against the forestock of my rifle.
I can steady up and make a fairly quick shot. Not rock solid mind you but it helps a lot.

Gunny, Nothing like a good walking stick and the measurement marks idea would be truly handy anywhere! .. I have one made out of a diamond willow. __ Back in the late 70's, a guy by the name of Sam Fadala wrote a black powder shooting book and he used a similar walking stick he called his "Moses" stick for a shooting rest.__ Just thought I would throw that into the conversation!

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks y'all. I have a couple others, but this one is my fav. Kind of a work in progress on this one - gives me some meditation time when nothing else is pressing and I expect I'll carve other stuff into it as time passes. It's a comfortable feeling to have something that doesn't put any pressure on you to finish. :)

Probably one of the first tools primitive man used, besides a rock..
And now you have one.

Yep. I have rocks also, and a couple antlers. Only thing left to get is a big jawbone from some critter and I'll be set for WWIII.
