Well I was ok with having them leaned up in the corner, but hey, what can I say. I needed a gun rack and the only place was right above the fireplace. So a trip to Home Depot and secured some oak, shaped it on my router table and bingo, had a frame. The only problem was finding a suitable hook to hand the rifles on. You'd think that there would be a good collection of proper hooks for a gun rack just waiting to be bought at these improvement stores. Guess again, every hook had too small a radius. I thought of wood pegs and coat hooks but rejected these; they just wouldn't look right to me. I finally went online and ordered some forged hooks from Old Cedar Forge in Allyn Washington. They are J hooks, 4 1/2 inches long with an arc diameter of 1 3/4 inches. Perfect! Ina from Old Cedar Forge was very nice, took my order over the phone and I had the hooks a few days later. With the frame built, stained and some paste wax finish, I screwed the hooks in, got the rack mounted above the fireplace and all the muzzleloaders hanging where they should be. Life is good...

is that Pat's .45 on the bottom?

...guess who's going "rocklock"

Nice rack Scott. so where does the other rack for the future guns go??? in the loom room?

See you saturday?

Thanks Pitchy, I got to admit, they do look better there than in the corner...

Pat's .45 TC is 2nd from the top. The bottom one is that .50 Monarch that shoots way to the left. One of these days I'll try to get that dialed in and then sell it. I'll need the space for the Gilespie I'm going to build.
Rocklock? Now what have you got??? :)
We'll all be up Saturday, see you then.

41Aeronca, Beautiful gun rack and some fine looking guns, horns, and pistol to set it off.

Great photos, but doesn't it always rain in Oregon? :hatsoff:

Well thanks there 1776! I'm starting to get quite a collection here, probably have to make another rack sometime.
As far as it always raining in Oregon, well just between you and me, that's not entirely true. Just today I remember a couple of minutes when it wasn't raining. :haha:
Actually, the wx report is for a chance of some snow on the valley floor here tomorrow morning. Were at a 200' elevation so it will be something if we have some. Won't last though...

This happened to me. I did the same thing as the top rifle and put my horn strap over the muzzle of my flinter and in about 6 weeks when I took the rifle down the blueing was gone under the strap. Something in the leather that I used for the strap ate the blueing away. No rust just a shinny 1 1/2 inch spot on the barrel.

I'm safe. That strap is lambs wool, 100%. But it is good to remember that about leather. Thanx for the info.
