The Words We Use and How They Define Us

Not to degenerate this post , but it would be fun for me to know , how many deer , fish , birds , rabbits , and squirrels , I have gutted over the years. Especially since the guys I hunted and fished with , didn't like to work with the critters they killed. Oddly , I never minded doing it. Never thought about it until now.

I shoot them behind the shoulder. When I'm done butchering. I process the sweet rolls (remove the silver skin) and cook them in butter, a tablespoon of bacon grease and garlic. But all my game is taken legally and ethically, regardless of my weapon of the day.

Well at 12 or13 yrs old I won the prize, I still remember crawling up into the chest cavity to get the heart and lungs out, It was an old boar and I can smell it just typing about it 58 years later. You think those things stink on the outside !!!

Yea I don't eat bear !

Agree with you there 100% friend! I have friend that kills them regularly. Always offers meat, and always a hard pass from me. Tried some bear balloney he made once. I put enough spicy mustard on it to choke a Hun, and it still tastes like a feral goats turd. I know another guy that says he prefers bear meat over Ribeyes. Yeah, I know I have strange friends.

Weapon is far too generic. Could be a broken bottle, baseball bat, knife, axe, garotte, brass knuckles or even a rock. Depending upon context, even firearm can be too generic.

The point about 'weapon' is that the word means an implement used in combat for the purpose of killing, injuring, or defeating an enemy. A target pistol or rifle, or a hunting arm is not a weapon.

Examples:
restroom = toilet, lavatory (you go there to rest?)
bathroom = toilet, lavatory (personally, I don't cr&p in the bath)
Heavy = fat, overweight
The recent surge in the use of 'issues' to mean 'problems', especially in the usage 'he has issues', to mean 'he has mental problems'. That has unfortunately been imported here and is heard all the time.

I am in 100% agreement with you. I have the knowledge, ability and if hungry enough the will to tackle another bear. I do feel sorry for those who were not raised by the greatest generation like we were.

In a conversation about hunting, a "weapon" is generally understood to be firearm, bow, etc.. if we were talking about a gang fight, you're broken bottle, brass knuckles, switch blade, etc.. would be understood. I guess they could cross over, but may be confusing for some. But if someone is relating THEIR story to you in conversation or written word, and you understand what is implied when they say killed or harvested, it's their story, let them tell it.

People say harvest because some hunting shows started using the word to be more pc. Most people I know thought it was stupid and made fun of them. Just like we make fun of people that call deer antlers horns. There is nothing horn about an antler!

The word restroom was used in school and in public

Bathroom is indeed the bathroom. It contains a toilet. Or pot, torlet, tarlet, tawlet, commode, throne, head, John, sh**ter, pis**r, etc..

We don't have wash rooms. That's too fancy.

The word heavy to say someone is fat is used by older people. It sounds nicer than saying fat. My granny used the work heavy in that way. She also said commode and pot. Never heard her say restroom or bathroom.

As a kid on the farm the out house was the crapper,the bath was a wash tub on Saturday nights, later in my teens in the USN it was the head. We did crp/pee in the head but not in the same stalls.

That wash tub sat on the floor near the parlor coal fired stove in the winter months and sufficed for eight young bodies.
