I have two caplocks that have earned their keep by excelling in the woods and on the range; I'll never let them go. I don't shoot them that often but I do shoot them. I just like flinters better.

Thanks guys!..I'm still looking. I did find a Traditions Shenandoha (SP?) rifle in a flintlock. Any thoughts on that? I can get it for 400$..but I am kinda leaning toward the thought of "keep looking" as I think I can find that rifle all day long for that? For sure in my price range though.

Within 6 months of buying my firts flimter I had sold all my cappers to fund another better flinter
I suspect it varies with theindividual and the way they view the sport

If you can wait until the the Dog Trials, there are many deals...and some not so much...to be found.

I grew up in Lima and bought many a gun at the trials when they were held over by Kenton.

Before you go get familiar with the better custom components and learn how to identify them. Track of the Wolf's site is good for this if you don't have a way to do it hands on....their pictures are great.

One fullstock flinter I picked up there has small Siler lock, set triggers, .40 Douglas barrel, and a beatifully striped maple stock, for less than you would pay for a TC, GPR or Traditions.

If you can't wait, I suggest you drive over to the Log Cabin Shop in Lodi. If you haven't been there, it's not a bad drive out US-30 and they should have anything you could think you want in stock and then some. It one of the best muzzleloader shops there is.

Enjoy your quest, J.D.

I AM waiting for the Dog Trials..and your right! MANY good deals and some not so great...I spent/spend alot of time in Lima..maybe our paths have crossed before?I worked at a large powder coating facility for 12 years in Lima called Metokote, my wife still works there. I've also been to the log Cabin shop many times..I have a few deals going..hopefully I can save up enough cash to buy a nice flinter when I'm ready.Anyhow nice to hear from a former "Beantown" resident.

Well, good hunting at the Dog Trials. I'll have to make it back up one of these times. Too many conflicts with kids in school and sports and stuff.

I'm gonna send you a PM in a bit.

J.D.
