Thinking of building another SMR.

The mailman came! Yahoo! Pecatonica out did themselves! My .36 caliber barrel arrived with dovetails for sights & underlugs cut. Sights & underlugs fitted to the barrel. The machine work is beautiful. The barrel flats will need no draw filing . . . at all. Much different than a Green Mountain barrel. From what I can tell it will only need being gone over with some 320 and 500 wet/dry sandpaper. And not a lot at that. It came fitted with a long tang breech plug like I wanted, only I thought that I would have to purchase that seperately and install it myself. Nice surprise!

Tried calling Jim Chambers to order a Late Ketland lock. No answer. Tried several times. Started looking on various other sites to see if any had a Late Ketland lock in stock. Finally found and ordered one @ The Log Cabin shop. It was the last one. Whew! Then I started looking for a .350 roundball mold. Most everyone wants at least $30.00 plus shipping . . . Over $40.00. And ebay is ridiculous! Looked up a supplier that I've done business with many times in the past. "Titan Reloading". They are a exclusive LEE dealer. Mold was $21.95 plus $11.00 shipping.
Well, I'm off to the shop to make a jig to route out the barrel channel.

Barrel settled into the channel. Razor sharp hand planes to clean up surfaces. I do love hand planes. Power tools can't do it all for sure! It's going to be a SMR but I can't just leave it plain. Added some highlights to the muzzle.

Was down in the shop working on my SMR stock blank for a couple of hours. Came up to the house to find a small box from The Log Cabin Shop between the front door and the storm door. I knew what it was. I opened the box to find a thing of beauty! A Jim Chambers Late Ketland lock! Everything machined & polished and the tumbler dead flat against the plate! After testing it I found it to be very fast and throws a shower of sparks!
