My Boy was getting pretty cocky with his shooting and wanted to challange ol Dad to a shoot off.

He got to pick his weapon. A Ruger 10-22 with a 4x Nikon.

I chose Ol Bill, my 50 Cal Bill Large Barreled Full stock Hawken.

The target was set at 30 Yards.

My boy said "The closest one to the eye wins"

He shot off of shooting sticks and I shot Offhand.

First shot, Cool Barrel, no Foulers.

The Luckiest Offhand shot I have ever had. He is only 10, But STILL! He had a Scope. AND A REST!

Excellent shooting Headhunter.

Keep your eye sharp. This won't be the last time he challenges you to a shooting match. Mine is 28, with children of his own, and he still likes to challenge me.

I can still outshoot him everytime with a long gun, but he sometimes gets the best of me with a handgun.

It's funny to watch the expression on his face when I make those shots that he can only dream about. :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

I love it.

I probably should let him win at some point....Naaaawwww. :nono:

If that doesn't wind up in a picture frame, then you are nuts. And write the story and date on the back so your grandkids can drop their own jaws sometime.

I am VERY proud of both of my sons. They are those "Outside Boys" that would rather hunt and fish than eat candy. Well, Almost.

My 10 year old will be handed the torch on May 18th. He will recieve my first rifle. A 45 Caliber T/C Seneca. I was given it when I turned 10 and here I am, 38 giving it to my Oldest and to this day, I am still using a PRB. And so will he.

He still made a good shot on his challenge. And I told him I was proud of him.

After the contest, I told him that some day, he will be shooting agains his son and he can woop up on him.

Undoubtably, you rose a notch or two in his eyes :hatsoff: Gave him some bragging rights on the playground at school, too.

Save these moments, they are not all as perfect as this one (although any time out shooting with the boys is a great moment).

Yea he'll remember that, I still tell people when dad took me out to shoot the first time, He stuck 5 stick matches in the top of an old hedge post and at about 20 yards with a winchester .22 pump lit three and took the heads off the other two!!!
Yea he,ll remember it....

That PRB must have been wearing glasses :rotf: :rotf: . Glad you had such a good time with your boy. Reminds me of the time my now 17 year old (then about 10) loved to double tap a .410 ga. dbl knocking-over coffee cans at 15 yds with #4 shot...the sheer joy in the eyes that he could do something just like Dad.

Congrats again and enjoy the friendship that you are building.

All the best, Dave

Headhunter: Sometimes, the Gods are shining down on you. I never know if they are being kind to me, or are teaching an object lesson to my student/challenger. But I know the feeling you had when you saw that center hit. Ain't it Grand??? :hatsoff: :hatsoff:

Great Shooting. May the Gods always shine on you when you have to do that kind of shooting.

Never mind his sons, you just made him more determined than ever to whoop his ole' man at his own game someday! My oldest at 19 outshoots me quit often. You'll see - now yours will never stop trying to whoop you back just to get even! You started a feud! :haha:

BTW, GR8 shot!

Acticap: Most fathers are proudest when their sons finally are able to shoot better than they do. I was proud the first time my wife outshot me! Let her bring home the deer- tastes just as good, if not better! Think about it.

Paul,

My 17 year old Eagle Scout gave me a whoopin and I helped him do it too! At our local BP League competition, at 100 yds., he needed a 7 to tie me...I watched through my new spotting scope as he "twinned" a 10, almost making a single hole, and winning the entire competition a couple of months ago :shocked2: . Proud would be an understatement!

Headhunter, he's only ten...sprinkle on a little growing powder, a little muscle memory, and your patience will be rewarded...You'll feel just like me  . Congrats again and I wish my son and I were there shooting with you :) .

All the best to all of the Dads on the Forum, Dave

What a great outing! Enjoy it while you can though. He'll outshoot you some day. That'll be his proudest day, and yours too for teaching him so well.

I can't wait to give him my Seneca.

I asked him what he wanted for his birthday this year.

He said: "I would like a Muzzleloader"

How perfect is that?
