Thompson Center questions.

I have added a piece to the top of the front sight and raised it about 1/4". I will take it out next week and start from scratch.

As was pointed out in post #2 in this topic, if your T/C's sights are 21 inches apart you would need to raise the front sight, or lower the rear sight .140".

If you did raise the front sight 1/4" (.250) your gun should now shoot about 9 1/2" low.

OOPS! Bad senior moment! I thought I better check on what sights I had on my TC. I had put several sets of Williams fiber optics on various guns over the years, I checked my TC and found the rear sight was factory and the front was a factory TC fiber optic I bought off eBay.

I will take a file with me and work it down starting with the rear sight in the middle of it's travel.

I would suggest shooting a group with the rear sight all the way down (as it was when you were a foot high at 50 yards) for a baseline with the higher front sight. Once you confirm the math is close (in theory your POI will shift down 21.4” at 50 yards with .25” added to the front sight) you can experiment away. I typically like to change one thing at a time (front or rear sight in this example) until I understand exactly how it changes things. Believe the rear sight you showed in your photo has a toltal vertical adjustment of around .150” (12.86” at 50 yards with 21” between the sights) and should get you to center before you run out of adjustment. Enough math. Time to shoot some targets. Good luck.

I have that one and the rear TC mate for it than came on a barrel I picked up in a trade. It measures about .410” high, similar to some of the higher TCs. The rear sight of this set measures just over .39” at its lowest. Interestingly, when I sighted in this barrel it zeroed for me towards the top of the rear sights adjustment.

I have a TC front sight off a Hawken that measures .473 from the bottom of the dovetail and .385 from the barrel flat section. Finding another rear sight may be an issue but the front sight is a standard 3/8 dovetail and modern or primitive sights should be available, check the usual suppliers.

Well that didn't turn out well. Finally got a day without rain and went to the range. Was dialing the rifle in and seemed to be headed in the right direction. Broke the tumbler sear. Luckily I found it when I was removing the spent cap and hadn't loaded the rifle yet. Thought I had found one but it was on e-bay and had already sold. Not having much luck locating this part. Any suggestions?

Contact Tom at the Log Cabin. There are long bar sights available that are drilled to fit the TC's sight holes. If not they are simple to drill. I may even have a couple.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, not a fan of the fiber optic sights and wouldn’t install a set myself (photograph shows a set on a barrel I took on trade). Have also seen peep, elevation adjustable rear and some buckhorn sights (had to be open a certain amount at the the top) disallowed. But the OP is trying to get on target and doubt worried about match rules until after figuring how to get on paper, if a concern at all.
