magoo, you said you got it for $75, I think you should say you stole it for $75. The barrels sell for twice that as do the stocks. Well done! Finding a lonely muzzleloader sitting neglected by itself anywhere and getting it for next to nothing is a situation that I dream of. Thanks for sharing and giving the rest of us hope that miracles do still happen.

I just got and old kit gun Thompson Hawken 45 cal it in very nice condition it’s missing the nipple. I got the directions with its. Who ever did it did a very good job on it. I cleaned bore it’s very nice. It was sitting In corner of a gun shop. I got it for $75 out the door.
I bought a TC Hawken a while back. Found that the correct nipple is shorter than most others. OAL .550
Found it at tdcmfg.com

I'm sure that by now @Robertakamagoo has installed the 1/4-28 nipple needed to make his rifle fully functional.
The nipple and mold on order. I talked to my friend who works at the gun shop that got it in. He say the guy that owned it own a furniture store. According to his son it was in his closet for years. He passed away a few years ago looks unfired the bore is mint the flash hole is very nice.I think sitting in the closet gave it that nice metal finish. He did a great job building it The wood to metal fit is very nice in my book. I gave it to my son he wanted .

I wonder how you are so “sure”?
The correct length is .550 not just any 1/4-28.
Track of the Wolf lists two nipples in 1/4-28 for T/C rifles ( not Senecas or Cherokees) with cone heights of 0.440 or 0.300. I would get the taller one. Actually, that is the nipple i have on my T/C Hawken. Rifles are less sensitive to cone height than revolvers as the throw stops on the nipple's cone, not the lock plate.

What is important is the thread journal length. One has a thread journal length of 0.195" and the other has a thread journal length of 0.200". Either will work.

@Robertakamagoo has ordered nipples and a mold. So while the new nipple is not yet installed, a replacement has been ordered.
