I just sent a check for a TVM Fowler. Its my first flintlock and I'm psyched, cant wait to get it home. Can anyone tell me the thread size on the ramrod so I can order up jags etc? Thanks.
Congratulations! I just purchased a TVM fowler at Dixon's fair and I can't put it down. It shoots excellent, I have 300 shots through it in a month. Mine is the Colonial Fowler, with iron hardware. The wood is the standard maple and the finish is their standard also. This is my first fowler also, and now I understand the following that smoothies have. Oh yes, the jag size is a 10-32 thread.
Thanks for the reply Riverrat. Sounds like we have similar guns, I also got the American Fowler, plain maple, iron fittings and antique finish on the metal. Cant wait to see it, expect in a week or so. I need to get the accessories now. What have you found works best for a shot load? I want to get mine set up for small game/bird hunting, so any advice is appreciated.
JM, check out Bob's Black Powder Notebook http://members.aye.net/~bspen/SmoothboreLoads.html
I have been using his loads as a starting point with very good results. I must confess that the majority of my smoothie shooting is with rb's, both with blue denim patches and with bare ball over a fiber wad/over powder card covered with a over shot card. I was amazed to find that shooting a bare ball (.600) at a 40yd target, will give you a 3" group! These TVM fowlers have great barrels that can shoot. I have not done anything to my front sight. The windage was perfect and I am adjusting the elevation with my eye placement. Shooting a smoothbore is like shooting a slingshot. I have a TVM Early Lancaster on order, however, it will be a real long time before I put this smoothie
down. Oh by the way, I named her "legs"
River Rat everything TVM had from .45 to .62 was 8-32? They had the parts box as always on the table, my rifle is also 8-32? Anyway Rat what is your bore size? Mine mikes out at .616.

No Problem R.Rat. I bought some musket flints for my large Siler the other day. Then I thought why did I do that? I have been using the things for years.
Thanks for the Info. on the bore. Now I use a very high class caliper, I think it was made in Africa by ants
Guys, thanks for the follow up. Riverrat, I did'nt get a chance to place an order yet so you are off the hook! (Just kidding). Will be placing an order tomorrow, now that you got me on the right track.
