The H&B Forge knives really are worth the money.
I throw mine by the handle. I find it works just best just a half step closer than my hawks do.
I like all of Bob Spencer's materials and thank him for helping all of us with them for so many years. However, I disagree only in that I prefer to move into the throw as if I were throwing a baseball. I understand the concept of repeated stability from a fixed stance, but then my variable becomes the arm strength to use for the throw. That issue seems to dissipate for me when throwing like a baseball pitch with a fluid motion. I just feel the stroke happen correctly.
A few other comments:
The hawk should go straight back and forth with the bit rotation directly in line with the target.
I step off 5 steps to start learning my distance and then a bit more for my pitch step. This gets me fairly close.
In about 500 tries, you should develop a feel for things.
Good luck!
