it's been frustrating for me trying to replace the flint. when i go to tighten the jaws the pressure pushes the flint and leather out. does anyone know any ideas to fix?

Do you have a section cut out of the leather for the screw?

I've had it happen, I just hold the flint in place while I tighten the screw.

Non issue really.

yes, there's a hole in the leather.

holding the flint doesn't do anything and while holding it as much as i can, the flint still does the same.

you can also cut grooves across the cock jaws. this is a siler with them cast in.

Like @PathfinderNC said, post a picture. Without it even the good suggestions are shots in the dark. Of a flat top flint and hole in the leather to allow the flint to be as far back as possible didn't at least reduce the issue, it would seem there is some info missing we need to help you.

It appears to me that the flint is too small and the hole in the leather is too small. You need a flint that is the width of the frizzen and long enough to reach from about the jaw screw to within 1/8" of the frizzen when the lock is at half cock. The hole in the leather should be slightly larger than the diameter of the jaw screw. Perhaps a little bit thinner leather would also help. Can we see a picture of the flint with the leather in the jaws?

When my flints get too short, they will push out of the jaws as @schuetzenisbestBP describes.

a previous post of mine explains the horrendous jaw screw.

i saw someone say the flint is no good. the problem was even with a long, fresh unused flint the issue happened.

It looks like you have a split lockwasher on the bottom of the stack. If so, it won't put even pressure on the narrow crown at the top of the top jaw right around the hole and is allowing the jaw to flex under pressure just enough to spit out the flint. If you had a short piece of steel tubing with clean ends under the bolt head instead of a washer stack it would work better and remove a considerable bit of that excess mass you have there flinging around at the top of the cock.
