Our turkey season started this past Sunday but there has been too many things getting in the way to go. Well today i decided i was going to go out for a while. Naturally it clouded up last night and looked like it was going to start raining at any time. About 3:30 pm it still hadn't started so i figured i would give it a try. Went out to the property i have permission to hunt. Saw one nice big flock on the way. Got to the property and there were about 15-20 turkeys not far from where i wanted to park. Figured they would bust before i got out and got the flinter primed, (i had loaded it before leaving the house in case of rain), but they didn't leave the area. So this was more a matter of picking which turkey i wanted to shoot than it was actually hunting. There was only one tom in the bunch so i figured i would leave him to breed. I wanted one to eat anyway, so picked a nice hen and fired. Boy i am really starting to like this .20 flinter. It went off just like it is supposed to and down she went. She flopped around some until i ran up and broke her neck. The load was 70 grs of Goex 3f, an overpowder wad, half a lubed fiber cushion wad,a paper shot cup, 1 1/8 oz of #5 shot, and an overshot card. Range was between 20-25 yds. Here are a couple of pics.

Awesome hunt, all the hunting stories and pics are driving me crazy. I need to find time and get out there. Nice bird!

You don't mean to tell us that you went hunting dressed like that did you? :shake: Afterall everyone knows that you can't possibly shoot a turkey unless you're wearing $500.00 worth of camouflage not to mention the camouflage for the gun. :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

I know, terrible ain't it. I find that i scare more turkeys with camo than without. I think they know you are hunting them when you are dressed in camo. But yep, that is what i was wearing. But like i said, this was more shooting a turkey than actual turkey hunting. Just food in the fridg.

Nice Rebel, see told ya me seeing those 3 Toms at my house was an Omen. :winking:

Save them wing bones and make yerself a wingbone call if ya haven't already. Grats my friend.

You'd shoot 3 blonds???!!! Well, probably wouldn't be a big loss anywho! :youcrazy: Nice turkey by the way. Thanksgiving at Rebel's house!!

:haha: That will give me somethin to day dream about on stand tomorrow.

You know when RC sees this he's gonna say nice pic of two turkeys and ask why one is holding a gun?! :rotf: :blah:

Good job Rebel. That sounded a little too easy - kinda like those turkeys had never seen a man with a gun before. :hmm: So maybe the hunt was a lot more "period correct" than your clothing suggest :haha: s.

That's great! :hatsoff: I've never hunted turkeys. Just don't have time anymore. I'm glad to see some folks make the time and are sucessfull in the hunt.

I know that's not you because I've seen your avatar and you always wear buckskins with the gun over your shoulder but congrats to whoever it is.

Rebel, great job and a great turkey.
I envy all of you who had the chance to hunt with a muzzleloader.
:hatsoff:

Thanks guys, ain't really nuthin' to it. Actually i think you may be right about the turkeys not having seen a person with a gun. They see people all the time in regular clothes and get used to them and when they see someone moving in camo the alarms go off. I don't kow for sure though. And Deadeye, can't fool you huh. No that's not me in the pic. it's the guy that owns the gun and shot the turkey, i just set at this computer and write to you fellas about stuff.  Nope, actually that old fart is me.
