There are a lot of half stock muzzleloaders with hooked tang breeches that are made specifically to make removing the barrel easy.

With these guns I heartily recommend using the feature and removing the barrel for cleaning.

I also remove the barrel from all of my custom full stock rifles to clean their barrels but I will say that if their is any doubt about doing this the shooter is probably wise to leave a pinned barrel in place while cleaning it.
