CONGRATULATIONS!! Hauling an elk out is quite a chore. It's been waaaaay too long since I've had to do that.

Have packed out {no horses} many an elk....sometimes wondered while doing it " why am I even here". But then in the camp, when the meat's a hangin', the tenderloins are a cookin', a plentiful supply of good sippin' bourbon whiskey is being savoured and a guy is with folks that share the excitement of a muzzleloader elk hunt in the "high country, this has to be the best of "what is". Our Wisconsin deer camps are similar, but there's something about hunting in the "Rockies" that is awe inspiring...the beautiful vistas and even just the sight of an elk. We "flatlanders" envy the residents of the Rocky Mountain states and hope that for a short while we can enjoy what these fortunate residents experience daily......Fred

Have eaten in Cortez a few times. We hunt on Taylor mesa NW of Dolores in the San Juan. Nice country.....Fred

If you think packin' the elk out is tough, try packin' in a stove big enough to cook a whole one. :rotf:

It's a cut down remington cap an ball with the pistol grip carved into a birds head.
It's my backup gun,
I carry it 24/7 when I am guiding and hunting.
It's a CoyoteJoe original

Being a south paw I make all my holsters.
It's a copy of a military tanker holster, with rivits for extra durability
