Clean barrel with a light canvas patch is hitting very good out of the 73 cal underhammer,,,,,,so today I shot some clean barrel shots followed by a quick loading of a paper patched ball.

Using two wraps of paper and a .715 ball........losse and shot way high and left.............

Clean the barrel and blow dry with the air compressor

Load a canvas patch and a .725 ball......BOOM, first shot :shocked2: ........quicky load a .720 paper patched ball.............BOOM, second shot!

This was repeated three times.

The first clean barrel shot are in a very good group at 75 yds off the bench.........the three follow up shot very 2", 1", 4" off the first shots.

Just tear, dump and load.....ram home and cap.

You will never find a faster follow up shot than a patched paper cartridge.

And I checked on the ground for burning paper, and there wasn't any. :) For some reason, printer paper doesn't want to catch on fire and burn. :hmm:

Thanks for the post. I thought I was the only one who did experiments like this. I usually sight my modern gun and now my ML on clean, cold barrels. The reason is I want to know where that first shot is going. I also like the idea of the fast follow up shot. I'll have to try that too.

73cal rifle.

Yesterday, three shot fired:

First with a patched round ball, pure lead.

Second, paper patched .725 ball, snug fit.....1" high.

third shot PP with .725 hard ball, needed short starter to load.....too tight, but 2"s low.

At 75 yards a three in group, no cleaning between shot , just shoot and load.

Big TIP........load fast before the 'crud' has time to harden.

and...........I did get some paper to smolter, the first time in many shots.....probably 200 or so.

I have burnt way more patches than paper. :hmm:

Any way, three shots under 3"s at 75 yds. [bench]

and be sure to read Daryls directions and info at the bottom of the page:
