I noticed what appear to be tooling marks that spiral down the barrel on my 62 cal fusil. And I don't mean rifling. They are very thin and spiral tightly. The barrel is by Rayl. Is this normal and is it a problem?

Those spiral marks are reamer marks and probably won't hurt a thing. At any rate you wouldn't know until you get to shoot the gun. I wouldn't worry about the marks.

Just because your gun is a smoothbore doesn't mean it will not benifit from lapping the barrel...

You can get the "chatter" marks out and make the bore mirror bright with a little effort...

Call Rayl and talk to him. You may be able to remove those scratches using the green Scotchbright pads.

He can describe the process.
