I am thinking about building a Vincent Ohio Rifle from TOTW parts. The default barrel that they have on their parts list is 36". I was thinking that a 42" barrel might be more accurate, but would this be too out-of-the-ordinary? Would the rifle balance properly with a 42" barrel? Would this be too historically inaccurate? Would a longer barrel create problems in assembling this rifle from their parts.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have here plan drawings of an original mid-1800s Ohio rifle, maker unknown. The plans were done by my father from a private collection in the early 1980s. The barrel length is 33 inches, and is marked "approx .32 caliber".

This is on my dream list for someday...

I really think the gun my be terribly nose heavy in that configuration. I would stick with the 36" barrel. My Dad built a Vincent in a 40cal with the 36" barrel and it handles nice. JMO

I think a 42" would totally ruin the style, looks, and balance of a Vincent. It is supposed to be a short light quick handling squirrel rifle, or that is my opinion of it anyway. Slight variations of same would not be noticable to most. A 42" barrel on one would definately ruin it's beautiful petite style & looks. :m2c:

A friend of mine put a 42" barrel on a half stock as a replacement. The gun looked rather odd and unbalanced. :imo:

:agree: Thanks for the opinions. At second thought, it would probably look funny on a halfstock.
