Thanks guys. Yeah I think I have also decided to go 42" .40 cal barrel for several reasons. Mostly weight, accuracy out to further distances, 3/8" ramrod, and more versatility. I had originally wanted .36 for the cheap to shoot factor, but I have a lot of lead and I can dig it out of my backstop so that is less of an issue then the benefits I think of the .40cal. Plus from what I have been reading the .40 was around back then. I do not know if this is correct but that is what I have seen. I'm sure I will change my mind back and forth a dozen times until I get a barrel. :shocked2:
 
My vote is for a well built rifle. A well built rifle looks good no matter if it is period correct or not. Quality in the build is more important than correctness. A gapped up clubby looking gun is ugly no matter what kind of parts it has. Study and do a good job and people will recognize your efforts.
