I recently bought a rifle I was concerned about with the same issue. I have only had one miss fire after sending countless balls down range.

Awesome, thanks for your reply. Do you fill the pan to the bottom of the hole or lower?

Much lower. I am of the “less is more” crowd. I use just enough. There is a thread where people have posted up pics with powder in the pans of various rifles. Try searching for it and you’ll see how little it takes.

I figured as much. Here it is. Thanks again.
You might consider sticking a countersink into the hole and giving the hole a bit of a funnel shape rather than the flat wall. I feel that the coned hole guides the flash in a bit better as well as it shortens the constricted channel into the chamber.

Why the ?? ?This touch hole stuff is all replica FLINT locks it being run on PRE flintlock . Does that seem correct ?. it dosn,t to me hence my comment . Rudyard
Rudyard, with all respect this is the gun builders bench thread. hence our confusion. is it possible there is a glitch in the software and it is appearing elsewhere also?

Hi,
The vent liner he appears to have is heavily funneled on the inside. It looks like a white lightning liner. He cannot funnel the outside at all. My advise is to shoot it. If you have many flashes in the pan with no ignition of the charge, consider drilling the vent hole a little larger. A #52 or #51 drill is a good choice even with a white lightning liner.
