Tow is the old term for the crose fibers of flax.
A tow worm is a set of spring steel spiral wires that fit onto a "button" to hold a hank of tow for cleaning the bore on a gun or rifle. Some would just thread onto the wood of the rod itself.
You take a hank of tow about the size of ping-pong ball, and "thread" it onto the tow worm and push it into the bore when it's wet. This cleans the bore, buy doing it and rinsing the tow, over and over. They you dry and oil the bore.
To use a tow worm properly you have to always twist the rod to keep the tow tight on the worm. If you always twist the rod clockwise, the tow stays on the worm.
Do as Steve said. You can washed the dirty tow out and used it over and over again.Or you let the dirty tow dry and use it at tinder.Works really good
