Any ideas on who made this Tower pistol? No markings other than Tower/ GB on lock, EIG on barrel left side, 627 stamped inside of lock and painted(?) in barrel channel and 23 under buttcap. The buttcap screw is a machine screw rather than a wood screw. The fizzen is pretty beat up, and all external screws look fairly worn.

Wish I could tell you who made it. But I will say it looks to me like an Elliot Light Dragoon.

Owned several of these over the years, most said "EIG' and "Japan"on the side of the barrel opposite the lock. I bought my first one around 1970 or so from EMF and it was just under $20.00 and that included shipping. And even back then that was not very much money. EMF sold them, Dixie sold them, as did several other places.

Yours appears to still have the original mainspring which is good - their mainsprings are subject to failure. The ones that I owned had threaded breechplugs; one fellow on this forum said that he got one with no breechplug at all and several others said that theirs had breechplugs that were welded in.

I would approach firing it with caution, and only after a very thorough examination.

Saul Eig was a firearms importer in Miami, Florida in the days before the Gun Control Act of 1968 greatly limited which handguns could be imported into the USA. In the wild and crazy days before litigation hugely increased the cost of handguns he even operated as a sole proprietorship. Such a decision would be unthinkable today. In 1966 he and his wife transferred the business location to a corporation, Eig Cutlery. In 1971 Eig Cutlery transferred the business location to a new company Firearms Import and Export Corp., commonly called FIE.

Eig imported a number of small handguns, as well as gas guns, starter pistols, air guns and of course knives, from various parts of the world. One was the Titan, a small automatic pistol, made in Italy. It was offered in .22 short and .25ACP. It was made by Tanfoglio Giuseppe, a small Italian gunmaking business. It is sometimes confused with Fratelli Tanfoglio. The tangle of these entities is explored in a products liability lawsuit over an injury suffered by someone who accidentally shot himself with a Titan pistol, Jackson v. Tanfoglio.

Basically, if you haven't already figured it out for yourself, if it has the letters EIG on it, it's a POS.

Hang it on the wall, or use it to prop open the barn door.
