Is there anything that can be done with this kit to make it earlier? I was looking at a walnut stock with the longest barrel available which I believe is 42". I dont have any trade gun books so I was hoping I could get some knowlege from the experts here. If there is a way to make it earlier, how early can this gun be done up in a reasonable manner?
thanks
Jas.

how early do you want it? there are similar guns dating to ca. 1790 I think? certainly by 1800. If you want to go to mid 1700s or earlier you need a different model.

Jas,

Rather than taking that kit and hacking it up, you might want to look at the Early English Gun at North Star West, as it is the predecessor or sorts of the NW Trade gun.

The earlier you go, more options open up. Dutch and French guns enter the picture. Have you decided on an era that you are interested in? And an area? And a personna? The good news is that a gun is available for pretty much any set of criteria you choose. This is actually a fun part of muzzleloading--and a chance to learn! Enjoy!
