They didn't for me--not enough explosive compound to ignite the charge and that was in a revolver-- which has direct ignition!

i used them with 85% ish success. i popped out the paper disc, made a scoop from a spent small pistol primer and tapped in some BP on top of the cap charge. then sprayed them with the cheapest aerosol dollar store hairspray i could get. i only used them from the bench, and they are a little slower than regular caps. they are very delicate with respect to the charge staying in the cap. the ones that didn`t work either had the BP fall out or are the ones that wouldn`t have worked anyway. i did this when i was out of caps and didn`t have a flint gun. i would hunt with them if i had to, and i do have a pile of packs of them set aside. i can`t tell you if they work without the extra BP added.

Many years ago, I left the percussion caps at home and could only find similar toy caps. My experience was similar, about 85% in my Ruger old army. Problem was that if the hammer hit too hard, the circcular nipple cut through the plastic leaving a plastic disc in the nipple opening. The success on my cheap as crap FIE revolver with the nipples hammered flat with a small center hole, by the previous owner shooting the empty gun at TV bad guys, left a more suitable surface for the plastic caps and they worked better, perhaps about 95%

Find the ones made in Germany and you will have better success. If you can "prime" your nipple with real FFFFg powder, you will have 100% success.I have had reasonably good success with German-made plastic 6-ring caps with real black powder in most of my muzzle loading rifles & pistols. I prefer CCI caps when I can get them but am willing to compromise when nothing is available. I am not willing to stop shooting, however.

Recall a thread on this a few years ago when caps seemed very hard to find and priced at $10.00 when found. I was planning to try then found a supply of caps. Give er a try Brit and let us know what you find.
